"Are you sure you want to close this window?"

"Are you sure you want to close this window?"

"Are you sure you want to close this window?"

Whenever I have typed something onto a page, e.g. a search engine, and want to close it; the above alert pops up. Is there a way to disable it?

Hi,

If you are comfortable using the Terminal app (Applications / Utilities)

Terminal command for avoiding the secure form dialog:

defaults write com.apple.Safari DebugConfirmTossingUnsubmittedFormText NO

To undo this… same command but type Yes.

HI Outpost...

From your Safari menu bar click Safari / Preferences then select Tabs in the menu

Deselect: Confirm before closing multiple tabs or windows.

You may need to quit Safari (Command + Q) then relaunch Safari for changes to take effect.

Thanks, but that option is for closing mulitple tabs or windows. I mean when you have something typed into a search field or whatever, it always asks me that question.

I find it an annoying extra step. It wouldn't be so bad to have to re-enter a search now and then.

I've been annoyed by this issue as well. I have the Safari Preferences / Tabs / Confirm before closing multiple tabs or windows option UNchecked and still get the nanny message about closing the window. This is a fairly recent change and I don't know if it is a Safari issue or if there's some Javascript or HTML option putting up the prompt. How do we find out which it is? I have a screen capture of the prompt box if you'd like to see it. Thanks!

I did as instructed and, instead, I get this message from the website:

{"Message":"An error has occurred."}

So, I typed the same command replacing the 'NO' for 'YES' and I still get that message.

Everything was working perfectly before and I use this website for work...

Any ideas how to undo what was done and still stop the pop-up?

I'm kind of scared of Terminal. I figure it's not called "Terminal" for nuthin'. 🙂

I would just call Apple -- (1 800 my Apple).

Even if you don't have Apple Care, I've found they will help without charging you, as long as you don't need a next level tech.
